Release notes
Latest beta
Still version 1.0; requires iOS 26.2 or later.
Sectional moving map (iPad)
- A VFR sectional under the live gauges, with the route, checkpoint radii, your flown track and the aircraft. North-up or track-up, pinch and pan, auto-recentre after 30 s.
- An offline chart library: download an area at Standard or Full Detail, see it as CURRENT, OUTDATED or INCOMPLETE, and resume, update, rename or delete it. Wi-Fi only unless you allow cellular.
- Start Live Flight shows how much of your route's chart is already on the iPad, with a one-tap download. See sectional charts.
Guidance
- A second hero card, TARGET GS, showing the speed that makes the leg on time, the gap to it and your current speed. It can never contradict the delta card — both read the same projected error, with a ±3 s / ±6 s hysteresis band.
- Impossible and unknowable targets are now named rather than displayed as a number: LEG TIME EXPIRED, NO GROUND SPEED, GPS LOST, LATE · BEST SPEED, EARLY · EXTEND LEG.
- A lost fix is detected after 5 seconds; the cards grey out instead of projecting from a frozen position.
Leg switching
- A checkpoint passed outside its radius now advances the leg instead of stranding you on it, shown as MISSED <waypoint> · UNDO and undoable with a tap.
- Passage times are interpolated between fixes, so a GPS gap over a checkpoint still times it correctly.
- The speed floor is a fixed 20 kts, so a slow aircraft into a headwind still advances.
- Edit Leg Times in Leg Control changes the planned times without leaving the flight, with ±30-second buttons and a running total, for when you are re-briefed in the air.
Reliability
- Tracking continues while Navigator is backgrounded, so switching to another app mid-flight no longer puts a gap in the scored track.
- The screen stays awake for the whole live session.
- End Flight saves the flight, scored or as a draft, and a draft is written every two minutes in flight.
- Opening a
.fplshared from another app loads it straight into Start Live Flight. - Waypoints are matched to the track in route order, so a route that returns to its departure airport or crosses itself scores correctly; the finish is taken before the landing.
- Restart Flight asks before discarding the track.
Version 1.0 — first beta
The first TestFlight build. Requires iOS 26.2 or later; runs on iPhone and iPad.
Live flight tracking
- Import a ForeFlight
.fpl, enter planned leg times, and fly with live timing guidance. - Full-screen instrument panel: projected time delta, distance to next waypoint, desired track on a compass dial, ground speed against a computed target, and a leg timer against plan.
- Panel re-lays itself for iPad and landscape — four tiles across instead of a 2×2 grid.
- Automatic takeoff detection at a configurable rotation speed, with a manual start.
- Automatic leg switching at closest approach, with a haptic confirmation and a hysteresis window; manual override through Leg Control for jumping, restarting, and ending.
- Position from Device GPS or a GDL90 source over Wi-Fi.
Post-flight scoring
- Import a
.kmltrack log and an.fplroute, enter planned times, settings, secret checkpoints, and fuel, and grade. - Results by leg: planned, actual, deviation, closest approach, course penalty, leg points.
- Five penalty categories — timing, elapsed, course, secret checkpoints, fuel. See the scoring rules.
- Grading runs off the main thread, so large track logs do not freeze the form.
Flights library
- Saved flights with rename, delete, and re-grade.
- Drafts for flights whose inputs are entered before they are scored.
- JSON export of a score, and JSON and KML export of a live flight.
- The live-flight KML is a
gx:Trackcarrying each fix's real timestamp and GPS altitude, so re-grading a saved live flight reproduces the timing it was scored with in the air. - A track log with positions but no timestamps is refused at import instead of being scored on invented times.
Known limitations
Listed in full under Troubleshooting. Two worth knowing: a live flight saved before the timestamped export will not re-grade, and the sectional map depends on an undocumented FAA tile service.
Under consideration
Not commitments, and not in any particular order:
- The moving map on iPhone.
- Interpolated passage times in scoring, to match what live switching already does.
- CSV and PDF result exports.
- Secret checkpoint and fuel entry on the live setup screen.
- Scoring settings exposed for live flights.
- iCloud sync between iPhone and iPad.
